Big trend with these chia seeds lately, huh! I started using this ,,super-foods” barely 2 years ago (shame on me, right?). I’ve heard a lot about these seeds back then, so I asked my self: what about them? Until one day that I bought a small bag of chia seeds and I totally like them. Since then they are always present in my kitchen and when they are done, I run to the store and buy another bag. That’s how much I like them.
Why ,,super-foods”? Because they are full of healthy fats (omega 3), have a high amount of protein, fiber, antioxidants and they are gluten free. They might be small, but they increase twice when you put them in any kind of liquid.
Althogh their price is not very low, I recommend you to buy them because it’s not like you eat them daily, like bread for exemple (and no, I don’t eat bread ). Usually I buy I small bag of 400 gr. of chia seeds and I eat them in 1-2 months. They can be incorporated into a bunch of recipes (salads, smoothies, homemade biscuits or bread, etc.), but my favorite recipe is chia seeds pudding. It’s very easy to make and you basically need only two ingredients + topping of your choice.
Here’s the recipe!
5 tbsp of chia seeds
250 ml. milk (I used almond milk)
Sweetener: I added ½ mashed banana, but if you want you can put 1 tbsp of honey
Topping of your choice: I chose pomegranates because they are everywhere in supermarkets right now, but you can use any fruit you want.
Put chia seeds in a bowl, then add the milk. Stir for 2-3 mins until you see the seeds get swollen. Leave aside for 2-3 hours or overnight in the fridge.
After 2-3 hours (or overnight) mash half a banana, add it into the pudding and mix. Put the pudding in a glass/bowl, then add your favorite topping. That’s all!
It’s perfect to eat at breakfast, as a snack between meals or as a desert.
