Detox smoothie with beetroot – a smoothie maybe a little strange for some of you, but I promise it is very tasty.
I have always loved fresh, homemade juices and smoothies. How could you not to like them? They are what some would call “health in a glass”. And here I am referring strictly to those juices and smoothies we made at home with fresh fruits and vegetables, with no sugar and other fake flavors, as we can find them in the supermarket. These kind of juices and smoothies provides me a large amount of vitamins, minerals and fiber.
Lately I’ve tried to drink smoothies nearly every day, be it a protein smoothie, where besides the liquid base and fruits, I also like to add oat flakes, seeds (chia, flax ), protein powder or a smoothie based only on fruits and vegetables, like this smoothie with beetroot.
When I want to go on a 2-3 detox days, and by ,,detox” I mean that in those 2-3 days I’m trying to eat as many vegetables as possible, to drink lots of liquids, eating cream soups or drinking smoothies (with beetroots, green smoothies) and not just drinking juices in those days, like other detox programs you can find on the internet. I think it is very important to let you know that our body doesn’t need miracle detox programs because it detoxifies itself every day and this is the job of the liver and kidneys, which eliminate all the toxins from our body. However, we can help them and for a few days just give the body a little break from heavy foods, especially when we decide to do 2-3 days of detox. On those days try to eat lots of veggie (boiled or in cream soups) natural homemade juices or smoothies and try to drink more water.
Smoothies with beetroot are very popular in detox diets beceause it has a lot of benefits:
- it’s full of vitamins (A, C, E, B2, K, folic acid) and minerals (magnesium, iron, iodine)
- contains antioxidants
- increases immunity
- help purify the blood
- helps the liver in the detoxification process
- provides energy
The classic beetroot smoothie contains: beetroot, apple and carrot. As I like to experience, I added some extra ingredients, which I promise you will love it.
Here is the recipe for Detox Smoothie with Beetroot!
1 banana (ripe)
juice of 1 lemon
a bit of fresh ginger
150-200 ml. water
*Optional: 2 handful of fresh spinach
- Peel the beet, carrot and apple, then cut them into small pieces.
- Cut 1 banana into a few pieces. Peel a little bit of ginger.
- Put all ingredients in a blender, squeeze the juice from 1 lemon and gradually add water, controlling how liquid or creamy you want your smoothie to be.
- Blend all the ingredients for 15-20 seconds.
